iPhone 17: the one most people should buy

The standard iPhone 17 gained the features that used to separate it from the Pro: a 6.3-inch ProMotion display with an always-on mode, 256GB of base storage, and a dual 48MP camera system (main and ultra-wide). For everyday photos, messaging, social media and video calls it is hard to justify spending more.

Its A19 chip handles games and editing apps comfortably. What it lacks compared with the Pro models is the telephoto camera and some professional video features.

iPhone Air: thin and light, with trade-offs

The iPhone Air is Apple's thinnest iPhone, with a 6.5-inch display and the faster A19 Pro chip. It is noticeably lighter in the hand and in a pocket.

The trade-offs are a single rear camera (no ultra-wide or telephoto), smaller battery capacity than the Pro Max, and SIM support: the iPhone Air has no physical SIM tray and works with eSIM only. Bahrain's operators support eSIM, but if you regularly swap physical SIM cards — when travelling, for example — factor that in.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: for cameras and battery

The Pro models add a telephoto camera for longer zoom, the A19 Pro chip with improved cooling for sustained performance, and pro video features. The Pro Max adds the largest display (6.9 inches) and the longest battery life in the range, and is offered in the highest storage tiers.

Choose a Pro if you photograph events, children or sport where zoom matters, record a lot of video, or want the best battery life. Otherwise the iPhone 17 gives you most of the experience for considerably less.

Storage, versions and price comparison

Every model starts at 256GB, which is enough for most people who use cloud photo backup. Consider 512GB if you shoot a lot of 4K video or keep large offline media libraries. Storage tiers are different products with different prices, which is why Farq compares each capacity on its own page.

Launch-season prices are firm for the first weeks. Prices on the previous generation fall at the same time, so an iPhone 16 can be a sensible alternative if you don't need the new features — compare both before deciding.
